Situation

Being Fired — Unjustly

You didn't deserve this. And you still have to decide who you're going to be on the way out — and in the months that follow.

In the moment

In the moment

The day it happens

Attitudes

  • I hold together two things: this was wrong, and God is still sovereign

  • I do not say or do anything on the way out that I will regret

  • I do not make permanent decisions about the relationship while the wound is still fresh

Actions

  • I leave with my integrity intact — what I say and do on the way out is part of my witness

  • I bring the shock and anger to God before I take it to social media

  • I tell one trusted person what happened — I do not carry this alone

Over time

Over time

The weeks and months that follow

Attitudes

  • I resist the pull toward bitterness — it will cost me more than it costs them

  • I do not let someone else's injustice turn me into someone I do not want to be

  • I remain open to how God might use this — Joseph did not see it at the time either

Actions

  • I pursue appropriate recourse calmly and without vengeance as the motive

  • I tell my story without exaggerating — the truth is enough

  • I pray for the people who did this — not to excuse it, but to stay free
