Relationship
Spouse
Marriage is one of the most formative relationships in the Kingdom — and one of the most revealing. What Christlikeness looks like here matters more than almost anywhere else.
When the relationship is good
Attitudes
I see my spouse as a gift from God and treat them accordingly
I choose to focus on what is good in my spouse rather than cataloguing their faults
I hold my preferences loosely and consider my spouse's needs as equally important as my own
Actions
I say encouraging words to my spouse today — specific ones, not generic ones
I put my phone down and give my spouse my full attention when they are talking
I look for one practical way to serve my spouse this week without being asked
When the relationship is hard
Attitudes
Even when I feel hurt, I choose to believe my spouse is not my enemy
I hold onto the commitment I made rather than entertaining thoughts of escape
I accept that change in our marriage begins with me, not with waiting for them to go first
Actions
I say "I was wrong" without immediately adding "but you..."
I seek counsel — from a pastor, mentor, or counselor — rather than letting things fester
I pray for my spouse by name, for their good, even when I don't feel like it
