Relationship
Teacher / Coach
Teaching and coaching are forms of Kingdom investment. The influence goes far beyond the subject or the skill.
When the relationship is good
Attitudes
I see the people I teach or coach as people entrusted to me by God, not just performers to develop
I am as invested in who they are becoming as in what they are producing
I understand that my influence over those I teach goes far beyond the subject or skill
Actions
I notice the individual in front of me, not just the role they fill on my team or in my class
I give honest, specific feedback — not flattery, and not harshness
I celebrate growth, not just achievement — effort and character matter, not only results
When the relationship is hard
Attitudes
I correct without contempt — the goal is their growth, not my frustration vented
I do not write off a struggling student or player — I look for what I might be missing about them
I check whether I am leading for their benefit or for my record and reputation
Actions
When someone pushes back, I listen before I respond — they may be seeing something I'm not
I apologize when I get it wrong in front of them — it teaches more than any lecture
I pray for my students and players by name — for their lives, not just their performance
